Experience the traditional folk music and dance of Northern Italy.
Your host is Meri DeLorenzo Howard has been performing Italian folk songs for 30 years. She has the website www.italianfolkmusic.com, the largest website for Italian folk music on the internet.
In this tour, she is combining her love of traditional music with the beautiful area of Northwest Italy at the foot of the Alps to bring you a tour of the traditional music and dance of this area.
Some of the traditions that are in this area include the 4-part harmony male alpine choirs, the occitana dance traditions, the firlinfeu panpipe music and dance from Lecco and Brianza, piffero, cornamusa, organetto and hurdy gurdy music, brass bands, gli spadonari from Giaglione, i trallalero from Liguria, alphorn music, violin dance music, work songs of le mondine of the Po River Valley, and dance traditions such as carnival dances, the monferrina, alessandrina and giga.
We are in contact with folk groups and ethnomusicologists and are preparing an exciting week for you which will include meeting with dancers, singers, and musicians in the small towns in the region, and concerts in Torino and Milano. We would like to include festival music and dancing in a small town as well.
We are still preparing the day to day itinerary which will take more time than the other tours because we have to coordinate with many different people to give you the most exposure to music and dance of this region.
This tour is limited to 6 people.
You will be a guest in our home in Romagnano Sesia (NO). Most of your meals will be provided for you. We will serve you many meals at our house, have some of our meals with the musicians and some in restaurants serving local specialties.
We will pick you up at Milano Malpensa Airport on Friday and take you back for your plane departure.
